R.S.E
Through out this module we covered various different aspects of sexual education such as STIs and sexual assault. Learning about the STIs and the effects they can have on your health made me more conscious of how important ones personal hygiene can be. I really enjoyed this module and found it really beneficial as I definitely learned something that will be useful throughout my entire life. For my R.S.E project I chose to do mine on sexual assault as I didn't want to have to look up the photos associated with STIs and I also found it very interesting to research the physical and emotional effects sexual assault and sexual harassment can have on a person.
Politics and Society
In this module we focused a lot on politics and society in the past and how it has changed today. We looked into 1950s-1960s America and the racism and discrimination there was throughout the country and how that effect life for people in a society such as this. We looked into the popular culture of the time and what people influenced society. I really enjoyed this module as I absolutely love learning from that eara of time. I find it extremely interesting and the topic never bores me. For our project, our teacher Mr. Roache asked us to design our own school and make it as accepting as possible for every child. I really enjoyed doing this project and working with the other girls in my class as we worked on some really creative ideas for our imaginary school and it was a lot of fun.
Forensic Science
Forensic Science was probably by far my favourite module for our first term in school. Unfortunately we only had it twice a week as opposed to three times a week. We looked into various different aspects of forensics from identification by fingerprints to observation skills in a crime scene. We did lots of activities in the module like using toy cars with different wheels to detect different tracks and match them to their corresponding car as well as finding fingerprints from a glass and matching them up with the correct fingers. The module was really interesting and thouroughly enjoyable.
Mindfulness
During our Mindfulness module we learnt the importance of mental health and well being. Throughout the module we learnt different methods of meditation. We often practiced these methods in class and at first I found it challenging to clear my mind but I soon became better. Mindfulness taught me how important it is to take time to relax and clear your mind in order to relieve yourself from the stress and anxiety that life can cause you.
Nutrition
In nutrition we learnt all about the various different food groups. We learnt about how to take of yourself by choosing correctly on the different foods you eat and the amount you eat. We were then asked to do a project on a diet of our choice. I decided to make a kahoot on the tapeworm diet. Learning about this diet both astonished and disgusted me but it was fascinating to learn about.
Careers
During our Careers module we focused a lot on researching different colleges and courses for the various career choices we might be interested in. I found this module really beneficial as it gave me a better understanding of the amount of points I should be aiming for to attend the colleges and do the courses that I wish to do. It informed me of the different subject choices I would need to study for my leaving cert for particular courses and all in all gave me a better insight on how to go about achieving the goals I want in my leaving cert.
Art Appreciation
I found the Art Appreciation module a lot more interesting than I had anticipated. As an art student, I have a great love for the subject and it was really nice to do a bit of history on it and look at it from different aspects such as architecture. For my project I chose to study the life and works of Pablo Picasso. I really enjoyed this module and took a lot from it.
Leadership
I particularly enjoyed the leadership module this year. I learnt a lot about the qualities it takes to be a leader and also got the opportunity to study the leadership styles of some amazing people such as Nelson Mandela. In my project I compared his leadership qualities with that of Emmeline Pankhurst, two amazing leaders whom I admire. While they're styles are very different they both greatly succeeded in one thing which was striving towards their goal.
